About Us

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to promote and foster the development of post-collegiate runners in the Philadelphia and the pursuit of their running goals. We offer training groups, coaching, sponsorship support, and above all, a community for runners looking to compete in track, road, cross country, and trail events on the local and national level.

PRTC is a 509(a)2 public charity.

Founded in the Fall of 2000…

as an athlete-organized and operated competitive running team, PRTC was first known as Surekill Track Club, named after a particularly challenging hill on Belmont Plateau's historic cross-country course. Surekill's runners quickly became known for their tenacity and teamwork. In 2002, the club rebranded as Philadelphia Track Club (PTC) to more closely associate itself with the city it calls home. Success in regional races, combined with sponsorship from Puma, brought PTC further attention, as the team stepped out on the national stage through participation in USATF and other major events.

Throughout the 2000s…

PTC continued to roster notable athletes. This era saw the club expand its presence at national championships and the Olympic Marathon Trials. In 2008, PTC was designated as a USATF Elite Development Club, underscoring its commitment to developing post-collegiate runners. The club's community and competitive spirit grew as it engaged in competition with other area clubs and continued to place top finishers in major local and national races.

In 2010, the club assumed its current name, PRTC…

thanks to a strategic partnership with Philadelphia's premier running store, Philadelphia Runner. This affiliation strengthened the club's resources and deepened its ties with Philadelphia's run club community. In 2017, PRTC registered as a non-profit, ushering in a new era of growth and opportunity. Supported by Diadora, the club sent six athletes to the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. In 2021 the club signed with ASICS, placed 4th at the men's 2022 USATF Club XC Nationals race in San Francisco, and sent two athletes to the 2024 Olympic Marathon Trials.

Today, sponsored by On, PRTC rosters over 150 runners

…and is dedicated to maintaining an inclusive and community-oriented environment. In 2025, we will host our first-ever track meet, The PRTC Indoor Classic, at the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center.

We value and prioritize the well-being of each individual within our community. Respect for others is paramount; we expect members to treat each other with kindness and dignity at all times.

Uphold Fair Sport

Demonstrating respect towards teammates, competitors, and event organizers when representing our club is crucial. We are committed to values of sportsmanship, integrity, and fair play, both on and off the race course and encourage any member competing in a USATF sanctioned event to familiarize themselves with USATF Competition Rules

We aim to compete with honor, treating fellow runners with respect and encouragement, regardless of their affiliation. Additionally, we recognize the hard work and dedication of event organizers, volunteers, and officials who make races possible, and expect our members to display respectful and courteous behavior to them at all times. By embodying these principles, we not only represent our club positively but also contribute to an overall spirit of goodwill and camaraderie within the running community.

Dignity and Respect for All Persons

We strive to foster a welcoming environment for all members. We recognize that joining a running club can be a significant step for many and we expect members to extend positivity, camaraderie, and respect to all newcomers.
