Recent Race Results
This week's race results are partially brought to us by Colin McGrath. He authored our Swarthmore recap as I drove some of the team back from the track around 12 AM. Thanks for the great write up Colin!
Swarthmore, PA: Greetings friends,
Summer is drawing near, and the track is hot baby! PRTC took a Monday night journey down to Swarthmore for its season-closing invitational meet.
Christine Eisenberg ran a commanding race, winning the steeple chase, and closed with a blazing 76 second last lap to bring home a new club record of 10:28.12! She took down Claire Duncan’s long-standing, 12-year old record of 10:41.887. Sorry Claire!
Colin Leak was next up. He stepped down to the 1500, running 3:58 with strong last lap to take second in his heat. He was supported by Coach Juli Benson, Philadelphia Runner extraordinaire Liz Pagonis, and his new 10 week-old puppy along with PRTC.
Lauren Kelly ran a season best of 18:09 in the 5k. She ran a courageous race, hammering the early laps, coming through 1600 at around 5:30. She realized afterwards that the first mile was “too quick,” but she held on to finish strong.
Honorary mention to the Lil’ Bear Track Club, represented by Kent Pecorra, who rocked an 8:45 in the steeple. Kent won by a nail-biting margin, edging his opponent by one second. Kent also performed some highly appreciated pacing work in the men’s 5k that soon followed, helping to carry Colin McGrath and Chris Mateer through 3200 at a fine clip.
Speaking of Colin M. and Chris, Colin ran a 5k best of 15:13. Chris ran 15:37. The two CMs stared out strong, and worked together to roll through 1600 in 4:45, and 3k on their target pace of 8:59ish. The humidity soon took its toll, and the pair fell off pace soon after.
Jeff Young followed in the next heat of the 5k. He wowed the spectators by running a smart race, dropping a 20-second PR of 15:45. He started out patient, settling into the back of the pack, and held steady as the jackhammers up front started dropping off mid-race. It was certainly a day where the spoils went to the wise!
The night ended with pizza that the team ranked at 2 to 2.5 stars at best, though Chris found the cheese chicken rather remarkable, rating it a solid 4.5 stars (and best of the Philly region)! Kevin’s chicken salad sandwich drew snickers and chortles, but he stood by his selection, reporting that it was “quite good.”
Up next: Colin M and Steve Hallman run the Buffalo Marathon, and much more! Stay tuned.

Josh took first in the 10k with a 31:57 finish while Breandan claimed the 5k title in 17:24. The dual wins were good for a bit of prize money. Hard to beat a paid trip to the beach! Nice work guys.
