PRTC Weekly: 04/17/2019 (Boston and More)

Race Results

Boston, MA: PRTC brought 11 members to the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon. Our club had more than enough runners to participate in both team competitions this year. PRTC's women's team made us proud. They came through with three very strong performances. The team placed 6th out of 62 clubs. A record high! The men also performed well. They landed just outside of the top ten at 11th of 66 teams. It was great fun to see everyone's hard work in action and paying off!

The lead up to Boston 2019 mirrored that of last year. There was much speculation that the marathoners would again be drenched and subjected to brutal winds. Others feared overly warm temperatues. Early on Marathon Monday, those fearing rain appeared to be correct. Fortunately (for specators at least) precipitation receded by the time of the race. By 9:30 and 10:00 things began to heat up!

Matt Herzig was the first from PRTC to cross the famed finish line. He placed 65th with a 2:27:17. Pat "Top Dog" McLaughlin followed with a 2:37:25. He was thrilled to best several of his training partners. Cambridge resident, Geraint Davies, took on his home course. He ran 2:39:28 for 344th. Mike Vido also broke 2:40 with a 2:39:41 resulting in 355th place. Joe Foley ran 2:41:45. He was accompanied for much of the race by his two brothers. This was Joe's first Boston appearance since a DNF in 2011. He placed 450th. Great comeback! Jeff Young had the lone PR on the men's team. His 2:43:19 was more than 3 minutes better than his previous fastest time. Congrats Jeff! Breandan Lyman's 2:48:10 bought him 916th and Ben Nieto's 2:53:29 was 1,465th just a few minutes off of his PR.

Margaret Vido recorded her 2nd fastest marathon. Her 2:44:37 was good for top 50 and broke the Olympic Trials Qualifying time again. Abby Cember was just over her target of 3 hours. Her 3:07:12 placed her at 344th. Becca Nichols earned one of the few PR's on the day. She took a substantial 6 minutes off of her previous best time. This put her at 924th. Way to go Becca!

Congrats to everyone who raced Boston! Get some rest and we'll see some of you in a few weeks at Broad Street! Ten miles has to feel easy now...
